ArtQuest…

Roman and I checked out ArtQuest (an interactive art exhibit for kids) this morning at The Frist. Admission is FREE every Monday in November and December with a canned good donation to The Second Harvest Food Bank. Roman’s favorites this time around were the kaleidoscope drawing and the movie making.

Kindergarten Field Trip…

I loved going on the kindergarten field trip to Walden Pumpkin Farm with Xander this morning!!!  It was the perfect fall day, and everything was so well organized.  Each class rotated through different stations: playing in the activity area, hearing about the life cycle of a pumpkin and picking out a pumpkin, going on a hayride, finding their way through the hay bale maze, and petting the farm animals.  Afterwards, we all enjoyed a picnic lunch and headed out.  It was good times!

Pumpkin Fest…

Roman had Pumpkin Fest today at preschool, visiting all of the fun stations: snacks with story time, pumpkin painting and crafts, face painting, play-doh, and pumpkin games and exploration.  I read books for story time and helped out with arts and crafts (building a jack-o-lantern, painting with foam pumpkins, and decorating treat bags).

Riding and Climbing…

Jonas has fallen in love with riding his bike…I’m so thankful he finally spent enough time with it to figure out that he could do it and enjoy it. We pretty much can’t keep him off it these days which is great fun to see.

He’s also really enjoying his rock climbing class.  It’s so fascinating to watch him scale a wall…he’s so much like his daddy.

Fun Run…

Jonas and Xander rocked it out at the Fun Run!!!  Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored them. They loved seeing those pledges come in, were proud to raise money for technology for their school, and rejoiced over the incentives they received for every dollar pledged per lap (invisible pen, bungee rocket, and stealth flyer).  They both ran 35 laps!!!  It was beautiful…I get so emotional watching races like that anyway and then seeing both of my boys out there running their little hearts out filled my heart to overflowing. Go, Jonas and Xander!!!

Lucky Ladd…

Friday is usually our pajama day, where we rest from all of the activity of the week, but we made an exception this week and headed out to Lucky Ladd to meet up with our moms’ group. Roman had gotten up at 500 am for some random reason, so we were both really tired.  But we still had fun together looking at all of the pretty pumpkins, petting and feeding the goats, riding a pony, going down the slide, riding the train, and playing in the corn box.  What a fun place!

Soccer Practice…

Roman had his first soccer practice this afternoon!  He was so excited…especially to have his good  neighborhood buddy, Jay, on his team and Mr. Matt, Jay’s daddy, as his coach.  It was crazy hot, so they took a ton of much-needed water breaks.  The boys all did such a good job hanging in there, and Coach Matt was so patient with them. When we got in the van to head home, Roman said, “I love soccer practice!  Mr. Matt is the bestest coach ever!”

Xander’s Piano Lessons…

Xander started Suzuki piano lessons this fall!!!  It took him a few weeks to work into it, but he is loving it.  His teacher, Mrs. Melissa, is so sweet and patient with him.  His favorite things right now are his piano books, so he’s working through those during his lessons for the time being until he gets more comfortable playing the piano.  Go, Xan-Man!

Discovery Center…

Roman and I went to the Discovery Center today.  He had a blast and did not want to leave.  He rung up groceries and moved them down the conveyor belt, floated a boat in the waterway, put tires on a car, went virtual skiing down a mountain, doctored patients, moved rocks from one bin to another with an earth mover, and more!

Roman’s First Project…

Roman has been asking me, “What homework do I have in preschool?” So, he was pumped today to get to work on his “All About Me” puzzle piece.  I cut the pictures out for him and helped arrange them, and he glued them on.  I know he’ll be so proud to connect his puzzle piece with his classmates puzzle pieces on his classroom wall. It will be interesting to see how they all fit together!

My Pet Rock…

I’ve been so amped up and occupied with settling everything and everyone back in from vacations and getting ready for school lately that I’ve been much more of a human “doing” than a human “being”.  The boys and I have all been a little worse for the wear, and my heart has been aching in the midst of it all…trying to remind me of what really matters.  This morning Roman asked if he could paint some rocks he brought home from our lake trip.  Instead of outing with the “not right now” phrase I’ve been using so much as of late, I said “okay” and I’m so thankful that I did.  We just sat on the back porch in our pajamas and painted rocks.  Those preciously colorful stones will be Ebenezers placed sweetly by the hands of my child, who God uses so often to character me, in my garden.

Kindergarten Screening…

Xander had his kindergarten screening today, and Mommy needed some quiet special time with just him beforehand.  So, the bookends (Jonas and Roman) had play dates with dear neighbors, and Xander and I had a picnic lunch on the porch.  It’s amazing how time slows down in moments like that, and you look across at your little guy and marvel at the boy he is and the man he is to become.  Precious. I love my Xan-Man!

Pump It Up…

Mommy was having a rough time of it and decided to take the boys to Pump It Up to burn off some energy on a rainy day.  Tom, being the awesome husband and father that he is, dropped by to offer his wife moral support and encouragement and to roughhouse with his wild boys.
