Jonas Lately…

Jonas is: loving gymnastics; starting to step more into his big brother role by helping out more often and playing more kindly with his little brothers; and enjoying all of the fall festivities (apple day, pumpkin farm, pumpkin carving, pumpkin day, fun run, trick or treating, field trip, etc.).

Happy Birthday, Jonas!!!

It’s hard to believe that my firstborn son is 6 years old today!!! (I’m beginning to sense that speeding up of time thing people always tell me about, but it still goes plenty slow too…haha). Jonas is excited about sharing with his class the red velvet cupcakes he helped me make, is looking forward to going to the toy store with MeMe and PaPa this afternoon when he gets off the bus, is all about opening presents with us after dinner and going out for ice cream, and can’t wait for his small birthday party at our house on Saturday when he can play with his closest buddies…a friend from preschool, a few friends from his kindergarten class, and a few of his best neighborhood friends. Happy birthday, Jonas!!! We love you.

Storytime…

The boys had a day off from school today, so we went downtown to the Nashville Public Library to check out their favorite story time with Professor, Mary Mary, J.J. the Lamb, Cedric the Dragon, and the Spanish Fox. Afterwards, they worked on a turkey pinecone craft and made wishes in the courtyard fountain.

Halloween…

We were SO excited this year to get to celebrate Halloween with my brother, Kerry, who moved back this year after many years in Taiwan!!! It was CRAZY cold and blustery, so it wasn’t quite the party in the streets in our neighborhood that it usually is. But we still had fun dressing up and watching the boys trick or treat around the block, and enjoyed giving out a few pieces of candy and eating a bowl of warm chili on the porch after we got the boys snug in their beds. Here’s to having fun on Halloween with family!

Family Pumpkin Carving Party…

We joined several families from our moms’ group at a church down the road for a Family Pumpkin Carving Party tonight. The food was delicious, and I’m totally going to be hitting some people up for some out-of-this-world cornbread and cobbler recipes. The boys had a blast playing on the playground with friends and were very interested in helping Daddy with the pumpkin design and carving.

50’s Day…

In honor of the 50th day of school, the kids dressed up in 50’s style today. I thought Jonas looked SO cute (he was not super enthused with the slicking back of the hair…but he rolled with it). His favorite part of the day was making and tasting a root beer float.

Fun Run…

Jonas ran in the Fun Run today to raise money for his school (thank you so much to everyone who sponsored him). He did a GREAT job running…he even stopped a few times to take a drink from his water bottle and got right back in there. It was so fun cheering him and all of his friends on…I totally started crying when they all took off running (races always get my heart like that for some reason). Way to go, Jonas!!!

Walden Pumpkin Farm…

We took the boys to Walden Pumpkin Farm this afternoon, and they had so much fun that they didn’t want to leave. It’s hard to believe that this has been a fall tradition for us since Jonas was almost one and now he’s in kindergarten. Jonas’ favorite part was walking through the spooky house, Xander’s favorite part was picking out a pumpkin, and Roman’s favorite part was riding the train.

Fall Break…

We have had a SUPER laid back Fall Break. Some of us have been a little bit under the weather, and it’s been raining pretty much every day. The boys have fought a lot which kind of surprised me (although I don’t know why)…I thought they might have missed each other…but alas. Here’s a picture that pretty much encapsulates our long weekend…rain, pajamas, and a lot of free play.

Lunch with Jonas…

I’m so excited to be volunteering at Jonas’ school, helping his precious teacher outside and inside the classroom. (How grateful I am to dear friends for taking such good care of Roman on these days so I can help out!) I got to eat lunch with Jonas for the first time this school year which was such a treat.

Bird Feeder…

Jonas asked for some craft supplies this afternoon and set to work at the kitchen table making…a bird feeder. He was learning about sharing God’s love in Sunday school today and was encouraged to do acts of kindness this week…I didn’t even realize it until after the fact. So, I totally had to share the sweet story and pictures with his Sunday school teacher.

Walking to School…

The boys and I decided to try out walking to school this morning. It was great to be able to do it with friends (it totally wouldn’t have worked otherwise since Jonas was running so far ahead and Xander was walking so far behind…luckily Roman didn’t start the fit pitching until we were on our way back). Here are a few pictures I was able to snap of the cuteness…Jonas with Eleanor and Xander with Claire.

Saturday Swim Lessons…

The big boys have started up a round of swim lessons on Saturday mornings. They are having fun and learning a lot. We usually try to get Roman in the pool with one of us during their lesson so he can kick around…otherwise he’s making a mad dash for the pool from the bleachers or he’s squealing and running in the hallways trying to get to the pool…if you can’t beat ’em join ’em. (He’ll be old enough to start lessons in the spring which I know he’ll be beside himself excited about.) Tom went with us today, so he got to join in on the fun.

Rainy Day Fun…

We’ve been taking it really easy this afternoon. The big boys intently worked on their cardboard box creations while Daddy organized the garage; and after Roman woke up from his afternoon nap, he very much enjoyed giving Ah-Ah a ride on his tricycle. While Daddy and Roman visited with a friend who stopped by to say hello…Jonas, Xander, and I took an impromptu walk in the rain and then went for a nature walk, collecting acorns in our butterfly net and piling them up for the squirrels.
