After Jonas and Xander woke up this morning (while Daddy and Roman were still sleeping), we enjoyed having a bowl of Lucky Charms with green milk and doing a fruity marshmallow rainbow sorting activity. Happy Birthday, Aunt Beans!!!

Glider…
I have been wanting one of those old metal gliders for a while now; so when I saw one sitting out in somebody’s front yard this morning on the way to t-ball practice, I excitedly pointed it out to Tom. Being the Tom that he is, he totally went back, knocked on their door, offered them money, brought it home, and surprised me with it!!! Aw…I love my husband. The boys took a particular shine to it as well and are having fun helping Tom and I scrape off all of the old paint.
T-Ball Practice…
We all loaded up, picnic lunch and all, and headed to the ball field for Jonas’ t-ball practice this morning. What a great way to spend a spring morning!
OrganINizing…
Jonas and I sat out front, soaking up the sun and drawing with sidewalk chalk this afternoon, while Xander and Roman napped. It’s so interesting to see how much his drawing changes every day. And, of course, I always get a big kick out of how much he loves to “organINize” just like his mommy (check out the sidewalk chalk…haha!).
Zoo…
The boys and I went to the zoo this morning after Roman got a little bit of a nap in at home. It ended up being the perfect day for it…a beautiful, sunny, spring day. They especially enjoyed watching the monkeys swing from the trees and riding the train!!!
A Full Day…
Today was a full day. I was trying to figure out how to break all of these pictures up into different posts and groupings and have just decided to put them all together to make it a little easier on my mommy brain.
Aside from it being my oldest brother Darren’s 50th birthday today (Happy Birthday, Darren!!!), I babysat two of our dear neighborhood friends’ little ones this morning so they could run the half marathon together (I love that am so proud of them…go Zack and Andrea!!!…hopefully, I’ll get there again myself someday). We had a blast doing what a whole gaggle of kids do when it’s pretty outside…and even played with several of our neighbors (there are actually people who live in these houses…haha…it’s almost like a ghost town in the winter). MeMe and PaPa came by to hang out for a little while and to give Roman his birthday present, and then they met Tom and Jonas at the ball field for Jonas’ t-ball practice. After nap time and before dinner, we all had fun swinging on the rope swing in the woods behind our house. Here’s our full day in photographs. Phew! Now I’m ready for bed. HaHa.
The Thinker…
Jonas is so funny with the questions he asks and with the things he says..his wheels are always turning. Here are a few he came out with on the way to preschool the other day:
“How do boats float?”
“How do plants grow?”
“How do our bodies grow?”
“I think the earth knows because it has a lot of things in its body.”
Super Boys…
Jonas and Xander were having so much fun being “super” this morning that I thought I’d put a cape on Roman so he could join in the fun.
Visit to the Dentist…
So, Xander went for his first visit to the dentist today!!! He got to sit in the cookie monster chair and watch Jonas get his teeth counted, cleaned, polished, and flouridated first, so he was totally cool when it was his turn to do the same…with one condition…that he get to sit in mommy’s lap. He did GREAT, and I was so proud of him and so proud of Jonas too…they were really such little men. Here’s a picture of them with our sweet hygienist (Mrs. Connie) and dentist (Dr. Robertson).
Wild Man…
Lately, Jonas (and Xander) are learning to restrain themselves from using “potty talk” at the table. We’ve been whittling it down to maybe one incidence a meal time (MUCH better than it was) after a visit to the Time Out Step for every infraction. Oh my goodness…the things that become the center of your energy and attention as a parent sometimes are so laughable. Anyway…Jonas has been the ring leader for pushing the boundaries with words like “Pooh Bear”, “Pookie” (like the little pig character in the Sandra Boynton books), and “P the Letter”. Little stinker.
In other news, he is totally into sight words and word families and LOVES and can read, with minimal assistance, the books in the Dick and Jane series. I’m so excited for him as he enters this next phase in his love of books!!!
Here are a few of his latest one-liners:
“I bet I will grow even taller than a skeletal system.”
“Mommy, the sun is close to Venus.”
“Mommy, I wonder how our Christmas tree decorations are doing under the house.”
Shoe Detectives…
After Jonas got home from school and Xander and Roman woke up from their naps, Roman hung out with Daddy while I took Jonas and Roman on an “expedition” to find Xander’s shoe in the woods. Xander and Spencer were blazing trails in the woods left and right on our morning walk, and on their last trail blazing adventure lost Xander’s shoe. We didn’t have time to look for it at the time, as Roman was in desperate need of a nap. Anyway, Joans and Xander were SUPER excited to go exploring. (They especially liked the pumpkins, that for some reason, someone had left several of sitting out in the woods). After two run-throughs, we finally found it. Yay!!! And yay for the hint of spring in the weather and for an adventure in the woods with my little boys!!!
Another Snow Day…
The snow was REALLY coming down this morning when the boys and I woke up…it was so sweet to see them all rush to the window and stand there looking out in fascination. It truly is just as mesmerizing and soul-quieting for me to watch the snow fall now as it was for me when I was a little child. I pointed out the birds flying to Jonas, and he asked me where they were going. I said probably some place warmer. He said he thought they were flying up to space where the sun is. Ha! I also enjoyed this conversation…
Xander: Where’s the snow coming from?
Jonas: God…He says let there be snow…and it just falls.
We waited until Roman went down for his morning nap and Daddy got home to bundle up and head out to play. The boys made snow angels and tasted the snow, we all threw snowballs, and (as our snowman building attempts failed) Tom made a snow volcano…complete with baking soda and red vinegar. Yay for weekend snow days!!!
Snow Day…
We woke up this morning to a beautiful snowfall…the boys and I couldn’t wait to get out in it after breakfast. They all enjoyed exploring and after Roman went down for his morning nap, the big boys had fun painting snow (I don’t think we’ve done that since Jonas was Xander’s age!!!)
Mis-Match Day…
Today was Mis-Match day at Jonas’ preschool. He picked out a combination of camouflage, stripes, and tie dye with two different pairs of socks and shoes. You can’t really see his creative outfit in this picture, as it was freezing outside in the morning and he wore his coat, but I love this sweet moment of him holding hands with one of his best friends, Henry on the way in to preschool. Aw…so precious!!!
Backwards Day…
They are having Wacky Winter Days at Jonas’ preschool this month and next month…Backwards Day, Mis-Match Day, Sports Day, and Pajama Day…it’s so much fun for the little friends. Today was Backwards Day, and Jonas got a SUPER big kick out of putting everything on backwards. (He was so into it…he was even trying to walk backwards!)
Playing on the Playground…
Tom and I took the boys to the school playground this afternoon for some good old family fun…
Coming Out Swinging…
Aside from being into potty talk in the worst of ways these days, Jonas comes out swinging with every little thing he says. Here are a few of his most recent creations:
“I’m being careful not to lose a tooth until I’m 6.”
“Do you know Cuties are oranges, Mom?”
“It’s silly that the sun and moon are out together, Mom…it’s day time over here and it’s night time over there.”
“Mommy, can we watch beautiful Alison Krauss sing her songs?”
“Whoever I miss…I love.”
“Do not run in a circle…run in an oval.”
