Polar Express at the Library…

The boys and I enjoyed a showing of the Polar Express at the library this afternoon! They came dressed in their pajamas ready to cozy up with pillows, stuffed animal friends, and blankets. The librarian passed out tickets (for prize drawings at the end) and refreshments (popcorn, lollipops, and bottled water). It was the perfect way to kick off Winter Break.

Here they are checking out the giant Christmas tree in front of the library and getting ready for the show to start…

A Trip to the North Pole…

MeMe and PaPa took the boys and I on a magical ride to the North Pole aboard the North Pole Limited this afternoon!!! We drove to Chattanooga, ate lunch outside the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, watched the model train go ’round and ’round, heard the “All aboard!”, and were on our way. We got our tickets punched, heard a story, shared a milk and cookies snack, sang Christmas carols, met Santa and Mrs. Claus, and jingled our bells. We are so grateful to have had this fun Christmas adventure with MeMe and PaPa!!!

The sweetest thing was hearing what Xander said when Santa asked him what he wanted for Christmas, “Whatever you want to give me.” May we all have such a heart this Christmas and always.

ArtQuest…

Roman and I checked out ArtQuest (an interactive art exhibit for kids) this morning at The Frist. Admission is FREE every Monday in November and December with a canned good donation to The Second Harvest Food Bank. Roman’s favorites this time around were the kaleidoscope drawing and the movie making.

Halloween…

We had a fairly laid back Halloween. We went to a fun neighborhood potluck, trick or treated around the loop, passed out candy, and watched a Halloween episode of Paw Patrol before tucking in for the night. Here are a few pictures, featuring: AhAh as Curious George, Roman as a Dinosaur, Jonas as Pikachu, Xander as a Dolphin, Jodi as Katniss, and Tom as a HazMat worker.

Pumpkin Fest…

Roman had Pumpkin Fest today at preschool, visiting all of the fun stations: snacks with story time, pumpkin painting and crafts, face painting, play-doh, and pumpkin games and exploration.  I read books for story time and helped out with arts and crafts (building a jack-o-lantern, painting with foam pumpkins, and decorating treat bags).

NVFD Open House…

The boys and I joined Tom at the NVFD for an Open House this afternoon. It was awesome!!!  I was just as excited as they were…what a cool event.  They helped a firefighter put out a fire on the fire simulator, watched a team of firefighters do a vehicle extrication, and saw a life flight helicopter land and got to see it up close.  It was so moving for me…I’m so grateful for all of our heroes, including my dear husband, Tom!!!

Activities…

For the first time this fall, the boys are all doing different activities from each other. Jonas is loving his rock climbing class, Xander is getting into piano, and Roman is all about soccer.  We’re enjoying watching them do their own thing and find what they’re passionate about.

In the Garden…

Roman and I worked in the garden this afternoon.  He helped me:  pull out the Zinnias that were on their way out (cutting some to put in a mason jar to enjoy indoors and saving the spent blooms to dry and replant next year); plant some cool weather vegetables…Broccoli, Kale, and Red Romaine Lettuce; and cut back and replant a clump of Black-Eyed Susans. He even found a worm friend that he put in a bug catcher with some dirt (it’s “sleeping” in his room at night on the dresser and spending the day hanging out in the garden. Yay for a beautiful fall day, digging in the dirt with Roman!

Walden Farm…

We joined some precious friends for a birthday party this weekend at Walden Farm.  We went on a hayride, and the boys picked out a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. The corn box and the hay bale maze were a big hit as well. It’s so fun to keep coming back here every year…it’s one of my favorite traditions. We’re looking forward to coming back and playing again before the season is over. Happy Fall, Y’all!

Lucky Ladd…

Friday is usually our pajama day, where we rest from all of the activity of the week, but we made an exception this week and headed out to Lucky Ladd to meet up with our moms’ group. Roman had gotten up at 500 am for some random reason, so we were both really tired.  But we still had fun together looking at all of the pretty pumpkins, petting and feeding the goats, riding a pony, going down the slide, riding the train, and playing in the corn box.  What a fun place!

Soccer Practice…

Roman had his first soccer practice this afternoon!  He was so excited…especially to have his good  neighborhood buddy, Jay, on his team and Mr. Matt, Jay’s daddy, as his coach.  It was crazy hot, so they took a ton of much-needed water breaks.  The boys all did such a good job hanging in there, and Coach Matt was so patient with them. When we got in the van to head home, Roman said, “I love soccer practice!  Mr. Matt is the bestest coach ever!”

Discovery Center…

Roman and I went to the Discovery Center today.  He had a blast and did not want to leave.  He rung up groceries and moved them down the conveyor belt, floated a boat in the waterway, put tires on a car, went virtual skiing down a mountain, doctored patients, moved rocks from one bin to another with an earth mover, and more!
