4th of July…

We had a neighborhood 4th of July parade this morning!!! The neighborhood kids decorated their bikes and trikes and scooters, followed the fire truck blasting patriotic music (driven by Tom), and enjoyed popsicles in the shade. It was a great turnout! We even decorated Petra. 🙂

NVFD…

The boys spent the afternoon at the NVFD, with a load of other kids from our moms’ group…checking out the firetrucks, running in the water from the fire hose, donning themselves with fire hats (donated by the fire department) and sunglasses (donated by Publix), and eating ice cream treats (donated by Publix). What a fun summertime gathering…I’m so grateful for our community.

Bob Dylan…

Tom bought me tickets to see Bob Dylan for my upcoming 40th birthday!!! I went with my dear friend, Honora, and loved it so much. We walked in jamming out to Mavis Staples, ate some super yummy food truck food, and enjoyed catching up and listening to the incomparable Bob Dylan and his band. Yay!!!

Funny Family Lines…

Mom: “Jonas, stop fighting about molecules with your three year old brother!”

Jonas: “Dad, who’s your favorite son?”
Dad: “Jesus.”

Jonas: “Why do dark colors soak up the sun more than light colors?”

Xander: “Ice cream and whipped cream are twins because they’re both white.”

Xander: “Does it seem like the moon follows us? I think it really likes us.”

Roman: “You put fruit in it and then you punch it. That’s fruit punch.”

Roman: “It looks like a booger, but it’s just green beans.”

Roman (trying to figure out how Siri knew how to get to the beach house): “Has Siri been here before?”
Roman: “Siri is Maw’s cousin.”

Roman: “Jonas, am I famous?”
Jonas: “No.”
Roman: “Yes I am. Everybody knows me.”

Smyrna Splash Pad…

We went to the Smyrna Splash Pad this afternoon! We had a picnic under a shady tree and had fun running around in the water.

The wagon that the Paccassis gave us for Christmas comes in SO handy for outings like these filled up with a cooler full of food, sunscreen, and dry towels and clothes. And I’m absolutely loving the rash guards that I found on clearance at Lands End with SPF 50 in them (thanks to a tip from Xander’s piano teacher)…I think they’re going to save my skin this summer.

Strawberry Picking…

We drove out to Valley Home Farm in Wartrace, TN this afternoon to go strawberry picking with friends! We enjoyed picking strawberries (Xander was excited to find a strawberry with a heart shape cut out in it), hanging out, and sharing scoops of homemade strawberry ice cream.

Lucky Ladd Field Trip…

I loved being able to go on Xander’s kindergarten field trip with him to Lucky Ladd Farms today. He was so sweet with the animals and especially loved the sheep and the baby goats, and he had a blast going down the slides and playing in the corn box.

I love the picture of him snuggling up with Ms. Chase. She is the dearest person and teacher. He has thrived and grown by leaps and bounds in her class this year. We are so grateful for her and just love her so much.

Mommy and Me Trip with Jonas…

Jonas and I went on a special trip, just the two of us, to Atlanta this week!!! We spent an afternoon at the Atlanta Zoo, a day at the Georgia Aquarium, and two nights in a comfy hotel.

At the zoo that afternoon…
Jonas had a blast climbing up and sliding down the canopy climber and checking out the komodo dragon. I enjoyed watching the panda bear chew bamboo, the baby orangutan swing, and the sun bears spar.

That night…
We explored the beautiful Centennial Olympic Park and Jonas discovered his new favorite restaurant, where we had dinner two nights in a row…The Waffle House. Ha!

At the aquarium the next day…
Our favorites were: the penguin waddle, the dolphin show, the sea lion show, the touch pools, the aquanaut adventure, and the movie screen size aquarium in the ocean voyager exhibit.

Mostly, we just enjoyed spending special time together. What a blessing!

Zoo Time with Roman…

It was such a beautiful day today that I up and decided to take Roman to the zoo this afternoon. We got to do all of his favorite things: feed the turtles, ride the train, brush the goats, check out the meerkats, go round and round on the carousel, feed the lorikeets, and play on the playground. We’re looking forward to having a lot more zoo time this spring and summer!

First Family Camping Trip…

We took our first family camping trip this week during spring break!!! A dear friend of Tom’s from the fire department let us borrow his land for the weekend. We had so much fun exploring the woods and the creek and the field, gathering rocks and wood for a campfire, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows for s’mores, and camping out in a little tin-roof cabin.

Spring Parties…

Jonas and Xander enjoyed their spring parties this afternoon, and I was so grateful to get to be there with them.

Jonas created a windsock, played spring bingo with jelly beans, and noshed on a chocolate sprinkle donut and fruit.

Xander suctioned skittles through a straw into a cup, stacked marshmallow cereal with clothespins, made a paper plate wreath with ovals cut out of paint chip cards, created his very own spinner, and snacked on rabbit bait (pretzels, teddy grahams, marshmallows, popcorn, and chocolate chips).

What a fun way for the kids to kick off Spring Break!!!
