After singing on the worship team at church tonight, I met Tom and the boys at a neighboring park to hear the symphony play!!! (I use exclamation points because it’s one of my favorite things to do EVER and because I got to share it not only with my husband but with my three little guys.). It was a little wild, as the boys were all over the place and heading towards the whiny side of past their bedtime, but still it was so worth it. Roman just loves music and put his hands in the air and danced and clapped (he also loves people, so he was all up in everybody else’s grill who came out to see the symphony play). Xander started asking to go home, so Tom ended up taking him and Roman home and putting them to bed, while Jonas and I stayed and listened some more. As I was holding Jonas on my lap and looking around, I decided that this is how life is meant to be…set to music. It’s more beautiful that way.

Mommy/Jonas Time…
Jonas and I went out together tonight to Cousin Annabella’s dance recital. It was so precious to get to spend quality time with my little man. He loved the show and said, “Mommy, this is really cool.” Annabella looked like a little doll, and I loved that Jonas and I got to share in that special moment with her and her sweet family.
Happy Birthday, Tom!!!
All three boys made Daddy cards for his birthday and delivered them with much pride before he left for work this morning. After he got home from work, we sang Happy Birthday again, ate the chocolate cupcakes we made for him, and watched him open his presents (his favorite was the Jerky Maker). Then, Tom and I got to go out to dinner and to Arrington Vineyards…it was SO wonderful!!! (We laughed because of how prepared we are when we go out with the kids but how unprepared we are when we go out by ourselves…probably because we’re so ready to get out of the house…haha. We forgot to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on at Arrington Vineyards, so we opted for the ever so versatile bath towel that he happened to still have in his car from swimming laps at the rec center…nice.). Happy Birthday, Tom!!!
Mother’s Day Luncheon…
I was so excited to join Jonas this afternoon at his preschool for the Mother’s Day luncheon. He was so cute and said the sweetest things. The pictures he drew and the crafts he made for me made me feel so special. How precious and what a treat to get to spend some quality one on one time with my little man.
Strawberry Picking…
The boys and I went strawberry picking this morning with our mom’s group…something we’ve all been looking forward to since last year…with an added bonus…Daddy surprised us and walked in the door just before we were about to leave to let us know that he took the afternoon off from work to go with us!!! We had a big time picking strawberries, ate a picnic lunch afterwards, and enjoyed some homemade strawberry-honey popsicles for dessert.
Glider…
I have been wanting one of those old metal gliders for a while now; so when I saw one sitting out in somebody’s front yard this morning on the way to t-ball practice, I excitedly pointed it out to Tom. Being the Tom that he is, he totally went back, knocked on their door, offered them money, brought it home, and surprised me with it!!! Aw…I love my husband. The boys took a particular shine to it as well and are having fun helping Tom and I scrape off all of the old paint.
5th Wedding Anniversary…
Tom and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary this weekend!!!
Our sweet friend, Shana, set aside her life for a day to come and stay with the boys…she has such a servant’s heart and is SO good with the buddies (they have loved her from day one as we have…she was the only person besides Mommy and Daddy that Xander would rest his head on when he was a baby which just speaks volumes). It was fun texting back and forth with pictures of what we were doing…the boys looked so happy.
Tom and I went for a hike at Henry Horton State Park, enjoyed happy hour at the hotel, shared a delicious dinner at Macaroni Grill, had our first full night’s sleep in a long while (my first full night’s sleep since before Roman was born), ate a huge breakfast at the hotel, and headed home to love on the boys.
Here are a few pictures of our fabulous hike and dinner, and here’s one of Jonas having fun playing with Shana.
Singing with Mom…
I was SO honored and excited today to get to sing with my mom on The Marty Stuart Show!!! I mean…how cool is that all the way around?!?
(Ricky Skaggs and I sang harmony with her on “A Far Cry from You” on an earlier taping this season…I love me some Ricky and can remember rocking out to “Country Boy” when I was in middle school..I’m kicking myself for not documenting that moment of getting to sing with him AND my mom with photographs.) So, this time I remembered to snap a few…it’s hard to do when you’re caught up in the moment.
I was super pumped to get to meet Iris Dement…one of my total favorites who I listened to so much back in college that her music is definitely on the soundtrack of my life and whose songs I love trying to pick out on the guitar and sing.
And, of course, it was a huge honor to get to sing harmony on “The End of the World” with my mom. We had to pretty much not look at each other because we knew we would either start laughing or crying. It was a moment I’ll never forget…looking around and seeing Marty coaching me along on guitar…resting on the music of Pig Robbins and The Fabulous Superlatives…feeling the swell of The Nashville Chamber Orchestra playing behind us…and looking over at my precious mommy doing what she was born to do…HUGE!!!
Here’s a picture of Iris Dement and me and mommy and me.
Playing on the Playground…
Tom and I took the boys to the school playground this afternoon for some good old family fun…
